Mateo Ambrose has been a visionary in the hair and makeup industry for over 15 years. His love, passion and talent for the business make him the go to artist to execute any beauty request. He has worked with the best in the business. His first memory of knowing what he wanted to do for his career was in kindergarten when he told his mother that he couldn't understand why his teacher wore blue eye shadow and pink lipstick. The rest well is history...
Mateo got his start at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. He studied there for two years and then moved onto The Aveda Institute in Minneapolis, MN, where he received his cosmetology license. Upon completion he moved back to NYC and started working as a hair and makeup artist. Being virtually unknown he worked for every modeling agency and photographer that would use him to build his portfolio. After a year or so he met supermodel Paulina Porizkova at the Elite offices. She booked him for her coverage of Fashion Week and from there his career took off.
A short time later his phone rang and it was Bruce Springsteen’s assistant inquiring if Mateo was available to work on his upcoming world tour. Without skipping a beat he said yes! For the next seven years he traveled with Bruce and the E street band literally all over the world and worked on every tour that followed. In between tours Mateo worked with many talented artists such as Billy Joel, Gwen Stefani, Kathy Griffin, Steven Van Zandt, Barry Manilow, Ricky Martin, Alexa Ray Joel, Christie Brinkley, Jessica Alba, Patti Scailfa and Adele just to name a few. Mateo's relationship with these artists allowed him to be sought after by some of the finest publications and photographers in the world. He has worked with Santé D'oratzio, George Holtz, Walter Chin, Annie Liebowitz, Danny Clinch, Thom Zimny, Michael Thompson, Hyuna Shin and so on. He has also worked with WWD, W, Glamour, ELLE, Cosmo, British Vogue, Dazed and Confused, Allure, In style, GQ and Details.
Now that touring the world has slowed down a bit, his 15 years experience in the business has provided him the luxury of being able to split his time between NYC and his new CT residence. Currently Mateo is still shooting with the above mentioned magazines and photographers and is also developing his private client practice in the Tri State area. One of Mateo's strong suits comes in the area of personal consultation where he develops a relationship with his client and learns how to unleash their inner "supermodel". If you would like to book Mateo please get in touch with him via the "contact" page. Smile your beautiful!
